More baby crochet

Hello there!
I'm so, so sorry that I haven't been on this blog for ages. I hope you all had a great summer and are enjoying a colourful autumn.
I  had a wonderful time over the summer. In June I went to Brittany for the first time and it was great. Then later in the summer I went to visit family in the UK and my son and I made a trip to Arnside (I'd read about the place on Attic24 and it was really beautiful). The sunsets were particularly gorgeous. There's my boy having a great time just as the sun was setting.
Then it was a very busy time getting my son off to university, then I had a lot of work, including a trip to Rabat, Morocco, earlier this month.
And now here I am :).

On the crochet front, things have been rather busy too.

After I'd finished the Daisy baby blanket, I still had a lot of pastel DK acrylic baby yarn and decided to make another baby blanket. This time I used Lucy's neat ripple pattern. My brother-in-law and his wife had a baby girl at the end of August, so she received the blanket.

More babies are due any day now! Some friends are expecting their first children - twins! So I got crocheting tiny little baby cardigans and boottees.

I used some lovely soft James C. Brett pure merino yarn I got in the UK for 2.99 a ball. It's nice and springy, and machine-washable. I crocheted them quite long so that they will cover the babies down to their nappies and I chose my favourite colours. I don't know if the twins are girls or boys or one of each, but I reckoned the babies wouldn't mind what colours they wear. My UK readers might appreciate the black and red Dennis the Menace stripes  top left :)

The pattern for the cardigan is here. And I made some tiny bootees with the leftover yarn, with a really quick and easy pattern, here.

Well it is nice to be back! I'll try to come here more often.

Review: 75892 McLaren Senna

Speed Champions has incorporated an excellent range of modern supercars since the theme was launched in 2015, including such popular sets as 75878 Bugatti Chiron and 75899 LaFerrari. I am hoping that the latest addition to this appealing series, 75892 McLaren Senna, will impress.

This vehicle looks absolutely incredible in reality, although such streamlined bodywork has proven quite difficult to replicate in previous Speed Champions sets. Nevertheless, the theme has gradually continued to improve and I think this model has the potential to match, or even exceed, the high standard of past LEGO supercars!

Minifigures

The driver wears branded McLaren racing overalls and looks great. Its dark bluish grey colour scheme matches the McLaren Senna and I like the orange piping that also corresponds with the car. Moreover, some metallic silver highlights are printed on both sides of the torso and the legs are decorated with a beautiful honeycomb pattern.

75892 McLaren Senna

However, I think the rear looks even more attractive, featuring the McLaren Senna branding along with an advertisement for Pirelli tyres. The black helmet appears rather plain and some printing would have been welcome but that has been consistently absent from Speed Champions figures. A wrench is also included and can be used to remove the wheel inserts.

75892 McLaren Senna

The Completed Model

I was immediately impressed by the complex shape of this vehicle when the first images emerged and it looks fantastic when assembled. The entire model measures 15cm in length and its dark bluish grey colour scheme is appealing, especially with the addition of some striking orange highlights which also appear. Admittedly, this shade does not precisely match McLaren's 'victory grey' but I think this is the most suitable available colour.

View image at flickr

The streamlined profile of the McLaren Senna is apparent when viewed from the side, exhibiting the smooth transitions between separate curved slopes and the windscreen. The trans-black windscreen contrasts with the black pieces and looks odd, although that would be difficult to avoid without spoiling the shape. In addition, this image shows the impressive orange wheels. The real McLaren Senna does not include orange wheels but the internal brake discs are very prominent and they are orange.

View image at flickr

However, the orange 1x2 curved slope on the bonnet does seem out of place and I would recommend replacing that with a dark bluish grey element. The remainder of this section looks tremendous though, including a pair of narrow trans-neon orange headlights and numerous air intakes along the front. I am particularly impressed by the construction of the headlights which are represented by axes from NEXO Knights.

View image at flickr

Stickers are applied across the entire model and they look great on the whole, although I was slightly disappointed to find that the windscreen is not printed, instead incorporating a sticker. The trim around the bodywork could also be improved as these black 1x6 tiles appear too wide in relation to the source material. Fortunately, the detailed air intakes beside the doors and the roof scoop on top are both quite realistic.

View image at flickr

The canopy can be removed to seat the driver inside. The interior is relatively plain but does feature a steering wheel and the minifigure looks good. Furthermore, I love the trans-black sections of the doors which are formed using an upside down 4x4 windscreen element. Such unusual construction methods sometimes feel fragile but this example is sturdy.

View image at flickr

Prominent air louvres appear beneath the rear wing and the designer has attempted to replicate those here. This design is not entirely successful in my opinion and the three exhausts, which are an integral feature of the McLaren Senna, are only represented by a sticker here. The enormous rear wing, on the other hand, looks perfect and its angle can be adjusted.

View image at flickr

Moreover, an impressive rear diffuser is situated behind the wheels. The surrounding bodywork would ideally be less substantial but it looks alright when viewed from either side and the orange stickers on the diffuser are attractive. However, the highlight of the rear section is undoubtedly the dual tail lights which are formed using trans-red spearheads. Once again, these parts originate from NEXO Knights.

View image at flickr

Aerodynamics are integral to the design of a successful supercar so the McLaren Senna comes with a small fan for use in a wind tunnel. This can be rotated manually and looks good, featuring an attractive white band around the fan. In addition, the model includes some useful 4x4 round corner tiles and 4x4 plates with a rounded cutout.

View image at flickr

Overall

Earlier models from the Speed Champions range were often criticised for their inaccurate proportions and that is the greatest weakness of 75892 McLaren Senna. Its streamlined bodywork is remarkably accurate but the vehicle appears too long in my opinion, especially when viewed from higher angles. Nevertheless, this set is still thoroughly impressive!

View image at flickr

The intricacy of its construction is unmatched in the Speed Champions theme and the level of detail is extraordinary. Furthermore, the aforementioned issue relating to the proportions of this car is probably unavoidable at minifigure scale, without the introduction of several new pieces. I would therefore have no hesitation in recommending this set, although certain areas for improvement do remain.

I hope you have found this review informative. Let us know by liking this article and share your thoughts on the set in the comments below.

This set was provided for review by The LEGO Group but the review is an expression of my own opinions.

Review: 76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue

The new Marvel Super Heroes sets are focused entirely upon Spider-Man and his heroic allies, as one might anticipate given the imminent release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This range does not necessarily take direct inspiration from the upcoming film but a number of Spider-Verse characters are included.

76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue contains three such minifigures, all of whom are brand new. Moreover, I think Spider-Man's motorcycle looks pretty good in official images, despite the dubious necessity of a spider-themed vehicle, so this should prove to be an appealing set.

Minifigures

A brand new Spider-Man minifigure was created for 6873 Spider-Man's Doc Ock Ambush in 2012 and the same figure has appeared in thirteen subsequent Marvel Super Heroes sets. This updated version is therefore very welcome, featuring a large spider emblem on the torso as well as dual-moulded legs. The decorative spider on the back of the torso has also been improved.

76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue

Furthermore, the torso's base colour has been swapped from blue to red which has a remarkable effect upon the minifigure as a whole. Its eyes now include some metallic silver highlights which look fantastic and the webbed pattern on the mask is reasonably intricate, corresponding with the designs on Spider-Man's chest.

76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue

Miles Morales is a central character within Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse so this minifigure should prove very popular. It appears almost identical to the previous rendition from 76036 Carnage's SHIELD Sky Attack, featuring an attractive black suit with red highlights and updated muscle definition, but that is not an issue in my opinion as it would be difficult to improve upon the design from 2015.

76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue

On that basis, perhaps the set might have included a separate head to depict Miles without his mask. He frequently appears wearing that guise in the comics and an alternative head would distinguish this minifigure from its predecessor. Nevertheless, this is an excellent rendition of the character, despite its familiarity for seasoned Marvel Super Heroes fans.

76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue

Both incarnations of Spider-Man come with a selection of web-based accessories, ranging from narrow strands to larger webs. Each component has several attachment points so they are extremely versatile and the new pieces feel consistent with old elements. I am particularly pleased with the web handcuffs that are worn by Carnage in the image below.

View image at flickr

Carnage previously appeared alongside Miles Morales in 76036 Carnage's SHIELD Sky Attack from 2015 but has undergone several changes since then. His elongated tendrils are the most notable such difference and are attached to a neck bracket that was created for the Avengers: Infinity War subtheme, granting them a much greater range of motion than the tendrils on the older minifigure.

View image at flickr

The designs on Carnage's head, torso and legs are equally distinctive. There are fewer black streaks and some orange highlights have been introduced. I think the updated design looks superb, although the minifigure from 2015 captures more detail and its printed arms should have been remained intact. The villainous symbiote also comes with two additional tendrils which can be held in his hands.

76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue

The Completed Model

Spider-Man has little need of vehicles in the comics but they are important for play and this motorcycle looks pretty good to me. Its curvaceous bodywork is very sleek and I like the consistent colour scheme of blue and red. The broad wheels are connected using Technic liftarms which feel sturdy, allowing the vehicle to lean sideways during corners.

View image at flickr

A stud shooter is mounted on the motorcycle's left side but this weapon does not launch standard 1x1 round plates. Instead, the set comes with a pair of pearl silver spiders. These were originally designed for the NEXO Knights range but they work perfectly here, loosely resembling the robotic spider drones which Spider-Man occasionally deploys. In fact, the drones appeared prominently in the recent Spider-Man video game.

View image at flickr

The motorcycle is also equipped with a web launcher. I like the twisted web strand but it seems rather fragile and the launcher looks bland without the web, unfortunately. The engine looks splendid though and I like the decorative sticker in front of the handlebars. Moreover, the headlights are mounted on a couple of red 1x2 rounded plates which are relatively rare, only appearing in more expensive sets.

View image at flickr

Spider-Man looks rather small when riding his motorcycle, although I like the minifigure's streamlined posture. The angled rear mudguard looks great, featuring an additional sticker with a webbed pattern and two trans-red lights above the tyre. The white wheel rims are also a lovely detail, complementing the web strands. However, the motorcycle feels very similar to Batman's vehicle from 76053 Gotham City Cycle Chase which is disappointing.

View image at flickr

Power generators and other industrial equipment have appeared in many previous Super Heroes sets but this example stands out, due primarily to its bright colour scheme. I like the printed hazard warning stripes and the trans-light blue displays look marvellous. The damaged access panel on the generator features a triangular symbol and some red and blue wires, perhaps in reference to Spider-Man's attire.
View image at flickr

View image at flickr

Pressing a lever towards the back of the model will cause the power cells to explode, as demonstrated below. This function is simple but it works well and I like the metallic silver 1x2 grille slopes underneath the power cells as these only appear in four other sets. The tiny spider webs attached to the generator look good too and will hold the power cells in place before the explosion.

View image at flickr

Overall

76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue is not among the best Marvel Super Heroes products that LEGO has released but I am quite satisfied with this set. The new Spider-Man minifigure looks magnificent and I like this exclusive version of Miles Morales, despite its similarity to previous figures. Carnage is even more impressive though, featuring articulated tendrils and a suitably menacing facial expression.

View image at flickr

Spider-Man's motorcycle is probably the weakest aspect of the set but it does offer reasonable play value and looks fairly sleek. I would therefore recommend this set, although those who already own 76036 Carnage's SHIELD Sky Attack might wish to focus their attention upon the larger models that contain some exclusive characters.

Chinese Court Upholds Hasbro's IP Rights In Counterfeit Transformers Judgment

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)
By way of a press release published before Christmas, we've learned that Hasbro has won a criminal case in China against parties accused of counterfeiting Transformers products. This judgment is the outcome of actions initiated in 2017 by Hasbro, and reportedly thousands of pieces of the fake merchandise were destroyed. It had long been common perception that entities in China could basically act freely when it came to playing fast and loose with intellectual property, but this ruling would seem to indicate that it may not be so easy after all.

We don't have any information on who or what specifically were targeted in this case, whether it was one of the companies we call "third party" that engineer their own products based on Hasbro-owned likenesses, or perhaps a manufacturer outright bootlegging official products like the tremendous numbers of near-identical Masterpiece knockoffs out there. If more such cases are currently ongoing but not yet disclosed, it might mean that Hasbro is no longer so willing to turn a blind eye to how it's IP are being used without permission.

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—December 20, 2018-- The Chinese court in Dongguan city of Guangdong Province has issued a judgment favorable to Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) in a criminal case involving counterfeit TRANSFORMERS products.

Hasbro initiated an administrative raid action in 2017, which was transferred to the Public Security Bureau (PSB) due to the volume of counterfeit product and seriousness of the case. After a thorough investigation, three separate defendants, including two individuals and one corporate defendant, were found guilty of counterfeiting Hasbro’s trademarks and fined by the court, and the two individuals were sentenced to jail time. Thousands of counterfeit TRANSFORMERS products were confiscated and destroyed.

With strong support from various Chinese authorities, Hasbro has initiated many actions to enforce its intellectual property rights in China, and this is the latest of several criminal judgments involving counterfeit Hasbro products issued by Chinese courts in recent years.

“We take the protection of our intellectual property very seriously, and we will continue to investigate and pursue those who infringe on our rights,” said Tarrant Sibley, Hasbro’s Chief Legal Officer. “We are pleased with the ruling in this case, and will continue to vigorously enforce our intellectual property rights to combat the manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit products.”

DC Comics ViniMates - CATWOMAN!

DC Comics ViniMates - Selina Kyle Catwoman - Diamond Select Toys 2018

About an hour ago I got into a drunken conversation about who played the best Catwoman (and I swear I didn't even have to initiate this topic). The general consensus was that Michelle Pfeiffer's 1992 performance in Batman Returns was the winner. But that brought up a whole conversation about how there really hasn't been a terrible Catwoman. Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether, Michelle, and Anna Hathaway each brought their own flavor to the role. (Since Halle Berry was technically a different character I exclude her). But that makes we worried about the future Gotham City Sirens movie since one character can only have so much good luck. For a few years there, we saw a constant flow of Selina merchandise. But in the past few years it has slowed to a trickle. This DST Vinimate is a great addition to my growing collection (I now own six!) and it's especially nice since seeing Catwoman on the shelves lately has been a rare occurrence. Now we just need Poison Ivy and Huntress! Let's check out Selina below!

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here is Catwoman with two other recent Vinimates: Batwoman and Batgirl.

And here she is with the 2004 C3 minifigure from Art Asylum (precursors to Minimates)

Cheers!

Moving house – post-apocalypse style

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Post-Apocalypse or “ApocaLEGO” is a LEGO building theme which can see more dull brown and grey creations than the most boilerplate of steampunk. Here’s a glorious exception to the rule by Rat Dude: an imaginative take on the genre which sees enterprising survivors build a moveable dwelling out of transport containers and a truck — like some mobile version of the stacks from Ready Player One. Revelling in its central idea, this model is gloriously detailed, festooned with every likely requirement of the wasteland warrior catered for — solar power, fresh water, air con, a vegetable garden, and even an outhouse for the effective disposal of waste!

Post Apocalypse LEGO crate house

This thing is well worth a closer look, and the builder has provided some imagery of various angles. Great attention to detail on the model — just look at all the little touches that have been crammed into it. This layer upon layer of detail has created an engaging model within a building theme that usually leaves me cold. I can’t imagine a better ride in which to tour our dystopian future.

While it looks like the toy won't be able to do the flight mode that the original toy could do due to lack of the necessary joint, it looks to do a brilliant job at emulating the now fourteen year old toy.

What do you think about this? Will you be picking up this Prime? Are you only choosing one Prime from this line or going for both? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews!

Once more, I gotta say that the Siege line is my favourite one from recent years. Despite the overall greatness of everything G1-related that came since Combiner Wars, this particular one will retain a special place in my heart.

To stay a little more in-topic, although the alt mode is a little "bricky", my real concern is the inner robot, that didn't seem all that great from the leaked pics... still, I'd pick it over the one without the trailer anytime, both because of the latter's rather generic alt mode and the lack of super mode.

So what is it with the trickle feed teases all the time. They clearly have the box, why not drop the full image? Looks like a fun toy though.
They liked the way the Club used to drag out reveals?
I guess some people go for that?

I mean we'll see the full official reveal eventually, I just want it now! And holy hell is it an almost dead ringer for the toy it homages

Seibertronian Rainmaker found the newest Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege several toys at Toyworld in Canberra, Australia. He found the wave 2 Battlemasters Pteraxadon and Aimless. They were also found by fellow Seibrtronian Drlockdown at another collectables store called Hobbyco. While these are the first global sightings for these toys, they are at collectable shops and not necessarily wide retail. Still, it means these are up and ready to go and can appear anywhere else at any moment.

If you find these toys in your area, or if there are other toys you wish to share with the community, you can post in our sightings forum or sighitngs section.

This image is not my own, I got it from Discord by an Australian user called DrLockdown. I am using it show proof of the wave 2 Battlemasters until I can get my own, he bought these at a store called Hobbyco which I had not have heard of until now. Pteraxadon and Aimless lie next to Lionizer.

If replicating Cybertron/Galaxy Force Prime/Convoy was their intent, they did an amazing job of that. This looks like what a Voyager version of the original figure could have been like back then. Kudos Hasbro. :APPLAUSE::APPLAUSE:

I'm very much drawn to this figure.

Interesting enough is that both this guy and Magnus have a very conspicuous gap between the front tire and the rest of the truck. Almost as if a second front tire was meant to occupy that space.

Cybertron Prime has 2 front tires, so it would have made sense for this homage to have them too. Did they get removed due to budget constraints? Engineering issues? Both? Something else?

All in all, its looking very very nice. Can't wait for an actual review, and direct comparison with the original one.

I can't find a complete version of the original under 100 bucks on eBay, so it looks like this is my only option. Good thing it looks pretty awesome.

Think from what we've seen so far he's a great homage... however I'm suffering from Optimus prime fatigue and will skip him due to my g1 focus. I'm already getting UM a bit begrudgingly, so yeah at least it's 65 euro saved...

You just have to wait for a while until you find a good offer. Just save the search for him on eBay and check every notification for new listings. Got mine the same way for about 50 bugs or even less complete and in (very) good condition ;)
But I have to add that I got mine here in Germany and the market/competition/fan base in here is a bit smaller.

Ebay is a place I would avoid for these toys. They are still recent enough that you can get better deals from local ads or local toy shows. I dont know exactly where you live, but ask in the meet ups/sightings thread if there are any shows in your area. That would be your best bet.

As for me, I remain indifferent on the toy. I feel its such a different kind of avenue for Hasbro. With g1, season 1 BW toys, BM, and Armada toys, there is a definite need for better toys. Which is why for G1 we have 2 lines heavily dedicated to better versions. But with Cybertron Prime, him being more modern, I get a very different feeling. I guess now I have a design I love that I can better pose, but even then the need isnt as strong. Cybertron Prime still feels like the definitive Cybertron Prime to me, does that make sense? I feel that for a few other toys that got redone recently like PMOP and Fort Max.

But say TR Trypticon, or most of TR (and most of MP), they feel like the definitive versions of those characters, at the moment.

I'm looking at UM right now. While there is a space for a wheel, there is literally nothing to attach it to. A post going all the way to the body would get in the way of the leg articulation.

I suspect they wanted to have 2 front tires initially in the sketch/design phase, but when it came to actually putting the transformation together, it wasn't workable. The only real option would be to have the extra wheels parts-form to the cab like the rest of the trailer/armor, but even that would be difficult without driving the parts count up.

So I'd go with both budget and engineering issues.

That's good advice thank you.

Will; I understand completely. I was 12 when tf Cybertron originally aired. It's the first tf show I ever watched. My parents bought me what they could (mostly deluxes or scouts) but the big figures were out of their price range. So when thrilling 30 got me into collecting I started looking up unicron trilogy toys. I realized just how bad armada and energon toys were, but more importantly I saw how awesome the cybertron figures are.

In my personal opinion cybertron figures are better than just about anything we've gotten since (save t30 springer) and if there was ever a line that has held up it's that one.
So if they are going to remake unicron trilogy figures it should be figures from the two lines that don't have solid, articulated figures.

I would only expect a peg or vestigial indication of a tire there if the decision to remove it was made almost into production.

Otherwise, anything that would have held a secondary tire there would have been removed earlier in the concept stage. Remember these guys go through several revisions before we get the final product.

I do agree, its likely an engineering issue related to clearance with the hip joints. Even having the tire swivel out of the hip area and remain hinged to the front tire and on the butt flap in robot mode to avoid clearance issues may have been deemed unsightly and a good way to reduce parts count and cost. At least 10 less parts considering swivel joints, pegs, tires and pins on each side.

Impactor is currently a mercenary fighting as a con, with Mirage trying to convert him to the Autobots. Also I think he's going to be a retool of Ironhide personally

My money is a Hound retool for Impactor. New front end, new hand, new head, and a new cannon and he's set

So I've been tinkering around with Skytread and a thought occurred to me. What if Transformers aren't forged after all :-?

Joking aside, he's a fun bot and makes me wish they would have done the same for Battletrap. Lots of fun to have the alt modes zipping around my desk then transform them mid movement and slam them together. I'm probably crazy or can't figure it out, but the two alt modes don't have any type of combined mode or clip together in anyway? My searches are coming up empty as well.

He could also be a new mold. So far, we have a majority of new molds with some retools, so I wouldn't be surprised if Impactor was a new mold. That said, regarding Cybertron Prime, I think he's a charming modern version of the original, not a definitive version, but more of an update. I might get him, if I don't get UM, considering I already have the CW Leader

I don't see why Impactor wouldn't be an original new mold. He was the fan vote winner. I'd bet Hasbro will treat him as such. No fan vote winner has been a retool/repaint. (edit: Ok. Except Victorian. 8- )

@Will - I feel you on your views on Cyb Prime. I felt the same with Op Op from PotP. Had they not done the Throne exclusive, I would have probably skipped him. For me Op Op needed no updating or replacing, but I love that he was available for fans who didn't have the original. Same with Cyb Prime.
For me, I've only ever had the Galaxy Force color scheme, and always kind of wanted the classic color scheme also. If nothing else though, this release would be a neat way for me to have my cake and eat it too. Plus it would be a new and different toy.

I have a feeling somewhere there are several Hasbro employees losing their minds. Over this Optimus leaks.

Why did they color Optimus's front bumper pale gray instead of blue? That looks so shabby.
